MSA is seeking a Team Leader – Structural Engineering to guide and grow a high-performing structural team focused on building structures for municipal clients, water and wastewater facilities, waterfront infrastructure, parks & recreation facilities, and tank design.
This role is for a structural leader who wants broader influence — someone ready to shape team culture, elevate project delivery, drive financial performance, and develop the next generation of engineers.
You won’t just manage projects. You’ll lead the people who manage them.
Supervise and develop structural engineers and project managers
Oversee technical excellence and QA/QC across the team
Drive financial performance and workload planning
Partner with Service Line Leadership on growth strategy
Serve as a senior technical authority for complex building structure projects
This is a highly visible leadership role with influence across talent development, client relationships, and business performance.

Define and assign work to align expertise with project complexity
Manage and distribute workload across multiple projects and clients
Hire, coach, mentor, and develop structural engineers and project managers
Conduct performance reviews and guide goal setting
Build bench strength and succession plans to support growth

You’ll lead through influence, clarity, and high standards — not micromanagement.
Maintain deep expertise in structural building systems and applicable regulations
Provide QA/QC oversight aligned with MSA’s quality standards
Support project managers in scope, schedule, budget, and client communication
Serve as QC Manager or Project Manager on the team’s most complex structural projects
Provide strategic technical guidance for:
Municipal buildings
Water and wastewater structures
Waterfront and shoreline facilities
Parks & recreation buildings
Storage and process tanks
You ensure the team delivers technically sound, constructible, and high-quality structures.
Work directly with clients to secure contracts and win approvals
Support cross-selling efforts across disciplines
Respond to internal and external technical inquiries
Participate in proposals and public involvement processes
Serve as a trusted expert within your specialty
You help position the structural team as the go-to partner for complex public-sector building structures.
Maintain accountability for team-level financial performance
Monitor project budgets, contracts, schedules, invoices, and scope
Collaborate on annual financial planning with Service Line Leadership
Develop future team leaders to support long-term growth
Ensure compliance with corporate standards and procedures
You understand that strong leadership includes financial discipline.
Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or related field
Minimum 5 years of experience in structural engineering
Minimum 2 years managing projects
Experience mentoring or supervising engineers
Professional licensure (PE or SE) strongly preferred
Background in A/E/C consulting preferred
Strong communication skills with the ability to navigate sensitive conversations with empathy and clarity
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
Why MSA?
The salary for this position ranges from $123,464 to $197,543 per year commensurate with experience. Higher compensation within this range will be paid to candidates with significant experience and exceptional qualifications.
